Akihiko Senda - Theatre Critic, Professor at Shizuoka University of Art and Culture
He was born in Tokyo in 1940. After he studied of Western History at University of Tokyo he entered the Asahi Newspaper. After he moved to the theatre section in 1968 he wrote numerous reviews of plays and musicals. In 1988 he became a senior staff writer of theatre and in 1997 he started writing book reviews as well. During this period he gave lectures of theatre at Musashino Art University and Waseda University. He left the Asahi Newspaper in 2000 and since then he has been Professor of Theatre Study at Shizuoka University of Art and Culture. He won the Best New Comer of the Minister of Culture Awards for the collection of his reviews eThe Voyage of Contemporary Japanese Theatref published by University of Hawaii Press in 1996. From 2003 to 2006 he was the President of Japanese Centre of the International Association of Theatre Critics.
